Setback

Other than Kelsey being sick yesterday all seemed well. Dad was going in for dialysis and mom would be at the hospital about noon when he was done. When I left the hospital Wednesday night all plans were laid out to take Dad home to his own environs to continue recuperating. Out-patient therapy and dialysis had been settled. Mom and family friend, Ken Haverstick arrived to find my dad just returning to his room and in a delirium and blind. They rushed him down for a CT scan and other tests to try and find the cause for the sudden turn. Mom went with him so he had a familiar voice. Ken got back to Belding and called me as Mom was accompanying Dad in his procedures. As I was rushing out the door to leave for the hospital Mom called to say that Dad was in really bad shape. I was at the hospital shortly after 4pm. As I approached his room a nurse rushed from his room calling for a crash kit. Another nurse escorted my distraught mother out of the room. Dad had endured a seizure. A doctor just passing through the hallway intercepted and contacted the critical care team which approved a sedative injection. We were guided to a family room by Rev. Cindy and a social worker greeted us to explain what would happen over the course of about 30 minutes, after which we could see Dad. A medical team gave us the quick overview. Dad was intubated and was being moved back to ICU. They performed an ex-ray, and a tech spent about an hour preparing him with wires for a continuous EEG. Dialysis is planned for 6am Saturday. The neuro doctor is not alarmed with the current readings of the EEG. A possible MRI will be performed to determine any tumors or stroke. Dad continues to have spasms when the medical team interacts with him, like turning him every 2 hours or delivering medication. They are trying to balance his sedative so they can wean him from the breathing tube, yet still deliver enough pain medication to keep him from having seizure like spasms.

It is frustrating preparing to take Dad home and then seeing him back in ICU.

Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances,
for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus. ~ 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
